Saturday Arts Lab is a program where students in the Art Education program, the semester or two before student teaching, teach the children of the community art classes on Saturdays. The program lasted about eight weeks and culminated in an exhibition. College students worked in classrooms within groups of three or four colleagues. At the end of the eight weeks all college students wrote up an assessment of their lessons and students' work to prepare for the edTPA.
During Saturday Arts Lab I worked with three other Art Education students and taught grades first and second. We switched off teaching lessons every other week. For the first half of the eight weeks everyone taught short one day lessons and in the second half created two part lessons that took two Saturdays to complete.
