Paul Klee: Students learned about Paul Klee and his artwork which included abstract and expressionist art. Students worked on designing their own abstract drawings in their own imaginary worlds. The challenge was presented to draw an organic shape without ever picking their pen off the table and to turn the shape into a building.

Game Maps: Students spent a lot of time in class talking about playing video games and which ones were their favorite. As such I introduced a lesson on creating game maps and how to create a story based on an imaginary game. Students created maps of games that they came up with on their own and labeled the different locations a character could travel to and provided a two sentence description of their game when they turned it in.

No Place for Hate: Students learned about the No Place for Hate Campaign in their general studies classrooms. This campaign advocates against bullying and teaches students about acceptance of others and diversity. Students were taught in art class how to create advertisements by making posters for the campaign. The third graders worked on deciding what were the most important details of the campaign that they wanted to include and inform people of in their posters.

Winter Landscapes: The final lesson I taught third grade centered around the winter unit. All of the grades had a project based around the theme of winter and in third grade they learned how create landscapes and how to utilize negative space. Students were invited to create a landscape that they might see outside or through a window at home and use negative space for the snow and practice utilizing the color of the paper as a design element.
